Chris’ Slow Roll is an annual community bike ride and celebration held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Named in honor of Chris Kegel, a beloved local figure who passed away from cancer, the event is a free, family-friendly gathering that promotes cycling, community, and healthy living. Participants of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join in on the leisurely ride, which typically follows a scenic route along Milwaukee’s lakefront. The event culminates in a post-ride celebration featuring food, drinks, and live music. Chris’ Slow Roll has become a beloved tradition in Milwaukee, attracting thousands of riders each year and serving as a testament to Chris Kegel’s enduring legacy.

The Man Behind the Mission
Chris Kegel was a legend. Father, brother, husband, friend to thousands and one of the nation’s leading bicycle advocates.

For over 30 years, Chris was the face, the spirit and the innovator behind Wheel & Sprocket, a Wisconsin-based bicycle chain and one of the country’s leading bicycle retailers. Chris was a founding member of Bikes Belong (now People for Bikes) and the Bicycle PAC (Political Action Committee). He was a past president of the League of American Bicyclists, a long-standing board member of the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and a key driving force on the board of the National Bicycle Dealership Association (NBDA).

Must see old commercials:

My passion for bikes started when my parents opened a shop in the 1980s called Parker Bikes (we were located in Parker, Colorado). My love for cycling has continued since then, in my work and with my hobbies of road cycling and mountain biking. After my parents’ shop closed, I worked for other bike shops (including Lee’s Cyclery in Fort Collins), where I built and sold bikes, fixed and tuned up bikes, and managed inventory.
I love working on bikes and want to share my passion for cycling with others. So, next time you’re talking cycling with someone and wondering how to get started or where to go from here, you can think, “I know a guy!”
