https://youtu.be/rkOvhoKR7LM. There are a few signs that can tell you when it’s time to replace your bicycle chain:
✅ The chain is stretched. You can check this with a chain checker tool, or by measuring the distance between two rivets on the chain. A new chain should measure exactly 12 inches across 12 links, from middle of pin to middle of pin. If the chain is stretched beyond 12 1/16 inches, it’s time to replace it.
✅ The chain is noisy. A worn chain can make a rattling or grinding noise when you pedal. This is a sign that the chain is stretched and has started to wear the teeth on the cogs.
✅ The chain skips gears. If your chain is skipping gears, it’s a sign that it’s worn and needs to be replaced.
✅ The chain is rusty. A rusty chain is a sign of neglect. If your chain is rusty, it’s best to replace it before it starts to damage the other components of your drivetrain.

My passion for bikes started when my parents opened a shop in the 1980s called Parker Bikes (we were located in Parker, Colorado). My love for cycling has continued since then, in my work and with my hobbies of road cycling and mountain biking.
