Taking SCARY out of used bikes, one bike at a time.

Not a technical issue, but you know it seems to run better when you clean your car. Well, that is the same with bikes.

When I refurbish bikes, I do strip them down to the frame and give them good detailing. You can do the same and recommend it.

Why? Not that it will run better, but it will provide you with a chance to inspect the frame for any issues. You don’t need to strip the frame down. Just take the wheels off to get to those tricky parts.

I first use a light degreaser or cleaner to wipe down the frame and get all that road gunk off. Then I use polisher on a rage to get a good wax coating on the frame. You can use a scratch posish too. Then I use a high grade of polish to get the extra shine with a fiber cloth. Always use clean clothes throughout this process. I have some special tools for sanding and buffing, but you don’t need those, just time and elbow grease.

In the end, you will have a clean, fully inspected bike and be ready to ride for the next season.
