Blackset Race wheels are our number one, best-selling wheel set of all time, and it’s no mystery why. Built from start to finish with top quality, light weight rims, hubs, spokes and nipples, using more spokes than many other competitive wheel sets, they’re still lighter, faster, and more durable than most other options out there. When we began prototyping and test riding them in the fall of 2006, we knew they were going to be a hit. At that time however, we didn’t know just how phenomenal they were. Open Pro’s were still used to compare other rims/wheels against, and the market place was still somewhat limited in scope. Since that time, much has changed in the road wheels segment. But if you still need a high performance, durable road wheel set, these are going to be one of your best bets. To this day, the Blackset Race 24 is still one of the best riding aluminum alloy road wheel sets around, and represents one of the best non-carbon values in the marketplace.

-Blackset Race 24 clincher rims are 24mm tall, with a 15mm inner, 19mm outer width, with a welded seam, and weigh approx. 425g/ea. These require inner tubes, and will not work with tubeless ready tires.

Where is Your Wheel Set Weight?
Not all wheel weight is equal. This is an 1600g wheel set with a 32 / 32 spoke count may built with strong, light weight rims, spokes, and hubs, compared to a lot of other “race” wheel sets with lower spoke counts. When you lower a wheel set’s spoke count, you run the risk of decreasing durability, as well as lateral stiffness, (the wheels could flex and rub with the brakes). So a lot of times the solution is to use a really heavy rim, which can result in wheels that tend to feel a dull, or lethargic. These wheels start with the use of a superior rim profile with purposeful wall thickness. So the rim is light weight, but not flimsy. The utilization of 3D shaped internal stainless steel nipple washers that match Sapim’s Polyax nipples mean that where the rim is doing the most work, at each spoke hole, we’re increasing the surface area in which the work is conducted. This reduces rim stress, reduces the likelihood of rim cracking, while promoting rim life. Expect these wheels to feel better, and last longer than your current mid 15-1600g wheel set now.
