I Know A Guy Bicycles “Guy’s Bicycle Beeswax Chain Lube” (House Blend).
The product comes with:
- 6 Beeswax Pucks 11oz. ish
- Tin with Cover
- Spoke Hook
- Bicycle Cloth
The Guy’s Bike’s beeswax chain lube is organic, from range-free bees provided by local bee farmers. Ride with the power of the hive. With Silky, smooth, stinger-sharp shifting. Don’t be derailed by substandard lubes. See what the buzz is all about.
The Paraffin, Beeswax with Graphite blend coating will last on average for most road riders around 220 miles (350km) and mountain bikers around 125 miles (200km). The dryer the conditions, the longer it will last. I get twice the mileage on my chains. Even in wet conditions, the wax will outperform any liquid lube on the market. This leads us to the next recommendation. (Those are very conservative numbers)
Industry-standard best way to run a paraffin system is to rotate chains. For example, if you ride 700 miles (1,127km) a month, you’d be best rotating 3 chains. Use the first chain for about 10 days of riding, swap to your second chain for days 11-20 days of riding, and when you get to the third chain, re-wax the first two chains. But I personally just ride until the chain makes noise, then swap it out. Typically, most people will get 2 years out of their chains using this system!
Note: It’s messy and is not for everyone!
What is all involved:
✅ Chain wax is known for its low friction and long-lasting properties. It can help to improve your bike’s performance and extend the life of your chain.
✅ To apply Guy’s Beeswax chain wax, you will need a wax pot, a chain cleaning tool, and rags. You will also need to wear gloves and eye protection.
✅ The first step is to clean your chain thoroughly. You can do this with a chain cleaning tool (ultrasonic cleaner) or by scrubbing it with a degreaser.
✅ Once your chain is clean, melt the Guy’s Beeswax with a boiling water bath in the tin. You can do this on the stove or crock pot (seen in the video).
✅ Once the wax is melted, dip your chain into the wax. Make sure to coat the entire chain evenly. (Let sit for 5 min)
✅ After you have dipped your chain in the wax, you will need to hang it, let it cool, and harden. This will take about 30 minutes.
✅ Once the wax has hardened, you can ride your bike. The wax will help to lubricate your chain and keep it running smoothly.
- The Yellow will vary from batch to batch
- DO NOT EAT!
- The amount of uses depends on how messy you are. If you’re a trainwreck in the kitchen, this is not for you.
- Just to be safe, only use the equipment for waxing and don’t use it for cooking food.
- Again, be safe using heating elements and hot wax, and use safe equipment like gloves and eye protection.
- Again this is not for everyone!
