Industry Information

The Shimano 600 seatpost is a component that evokes a strong sense of cycling history, representing a key era and quality standard for the brand.

  • Market Position (Historical): Shimano 600 was the brand’s premium road cycling groupset before the formal establishment of the Ultegra name. It was positioned below Dura-Ace but was considered a high-quality, professional-grade component, especially in the 1980s and early 1990s. The 600 series was known for its sleek aesthetics, excellent finish, and reliable performance, often favored by serious enthusiasts and competitive amateurs.
  • Aesthetic and Era: The “Polished Alloy” finish is characteristic of the time period, where high-gloss, anodized or polished aluminum components were the mark of quality. This specific seatpost often features classic styling, such as a fluted (grooved) body and a simple, yet robust, single-bolt micro-adjust clamp system.
  • The Post’s Design: Shimano 600 seatposts were prized for their finish and functionality. The fluted design on the shaft was not just for looks; it reduced weight and provided a better grip inside the seat tube to prevent slipping (though a smooth surface was also common). The single-bolt clamp allows the saddle angle and fore-aft position to be adjusted, a standard but effective mechanism for the time.

A little about the seller:

I’ve been in the cycling industry for more than 30 years (I know, that makes me old!). I’ve been a professional bicycle mechanic for most of those years, including working locally at Lee’s Cyclery before they became Trek Stores. Now I work from home as a Customer Success Manager for a software team. But I still love fixing up and working on bikes and riding them too!

Purchase from me with peace of mind. Not only can you trust my years of experience, but I will also fit you for the bike and provide any mechanical insight at the time of purchase.

Shipping information:

I ship USPS Ground.  I try to keep it simple. It will be packed very well, but if you see any damage to the box or Part, keep the box and packing material plus, take pictures. I do insure all parts that are shipped. In addition, if shipped out of Colorado, there is no Sales Tax. You can also combine shipping with multiple items.
