Shimano Dura-Ace RD 7700 9 Speed Road Bike Rear Derailleur Short Cage
Has been inspected, Ultrasonic cleaned, and lubed. Ready to be used.
The Shimano Dura-Ace RD-7700 is a 9-speed rear derailleur, and its compatibility is determined by its cable pull ratio. Unlike earlier Dura-Ace groupsets, the 7700 series adopted the standard Shimano pull ratio, which makes it compatible with a wider range of shifters.
Specifically, the RD-7700 is compatible with:
- Any Shimano 9-speed road shifters. This is its intended and most common pairing. It works perfectly with the matching Dura-Ace ST-7700 STI (brake/shift) levers, as well as the SL-BS77 bar-end shifters.
- Other 9-speed Shimano road groupsets. Due to the consistent cable pull ratio, the RD-7700 will also work with 9-speed shifters from groups like Ultegra (6500 series) and 105 (5500 series).
- Most Shimano 10-speed road shifters (with exceptions). According to many bike mechanics and enthusiasts, the RD-7700 is often compatible with Shimano 10-speed road shifters (e.g., Dura-Ace 7800, Ultegra 6600, 105 5600) when used with a 10-speed cassette. This is because the derailleur’s “pull” is close enough to the 10-speed standard to work, though Shimano may not officially sanction it.
- Shimano 6, 7, and 8-speed shifters. The cable pull ratio for most 6, 7, 8, and 9-speed Shimano rear derailleurs is the same. The “speed” of the system is determined by the shifter and the cassette. So, you could use this derailleur with an 8-speed cassette and 8-speed shifters, for example.
- Friction Shifters: This derailleur is also compatible with friction shifters, as these shifters are not indexed and rely on the user to move the derailleur to the correct position for each gear.
Important Compatibility Exclusions:
- Pre-1997 Dura-Ace: Older Dura-Ace rear derailleurs had a different cable pull ratio and are not compatible with the RD-7700.
- Shimano 10-speed Tiagra 4700: This group has a different cable pull ratio from other Shimano road groups and is not compatible.
- Shimano 11-speed and 12-speed shifters: These systems use a different cable pull ratio and are not compatible.
- SRAM or Campagnolo shifters: These brands use entirely different actuation ratios and are not cross-compatible with Shimano components without using a third-party cable pull adapter (like a Jtek ShiftMate).
