Blackset Race wheels are our number one, best-selling wheel set of all time, and it’s no mystery why.  Built from start to finish with top quality, light weight rims, hubs, spokes and nipples, using more spokes than many other competitive wheel sets, they’re still lighter, faster, and more durable than most other options out there.  When we began prototyping and test riding them in the fall of 2006, we knew they were going to be a hit.  At that time however, we didn’t know just how phenomenal they were.  Open Pro’s were still used to compare other rims/wheels against, and the market place was still somewhat limited in scope.  Since that time, many other brands have turned their complete attention towards carbon, with mixed results.  Blackset Race wheels have been our focus, and over time we have expanded our Blackset Race rim line up, and have added modern touches to their rim spec, such as Tubeless Ready and wider inner profiles.  Today, they are one of the best riding aluminum alloy road wheel sets around, and represent one of the best non-carbon values in the marketplace.

Now you can select your wheel build hole count, front and rear. Blackset Race wheels are built using light weight, tubeless ready, alloy clincher road rims with a 17mm inner, 22mm outer profile.  The number in the wheel set name, as in Blackset Race “30” refers to the rim height.  Thus, the BSR 30 rim is 30mm tall, 22mm wide, with a 17mm inner width.  The slightly wider 17mm inner profile of the BSR TR rims offer a smoother ride because the mounted tire will have a fuller profile.  The BSR 30 rim in particular is our tallest BSR rim profile, is the strongest, and works well over a wide range of riding conditions.

These wheels are built with top quality Sapim Dlight 2.0/1.65mm black stainless butted spokes, and silver alloy nipples, laced to one of the best road hub sets that doesn’t say Dura-Ace that we’ve ever built with.

Where is Your Wheel Set Weight?

Not all wheel weight is equal. An 1800g wheel set with a 20 / 24 spoke count may be using heavier rims, spokes, and hubs, compared to the same wheel set with a higher spoke count. When you lower a wheel set’s spoke count, you run the risk of decreasing durability, as well as lateral stiffness, (the wheels could flex and rub with the brakes). All that, and they tend to feel a bit dull.  These wheels start with the use of a superior rim profile with purposeful wall thickness.  So the rim is light weight, but not flimsy.  The utilization of 3D shaped internal stainless steel nipple washers that match Sapim’s Polyax nipples mean that where the rim is doing the most work, at each spoke hole, we’re increasing the surface area in which the work is conducted.  This reduces rim stress, reduces the likelihood of rim cracking, while promoting rim life.  Expect these wheels to feel better, and last longer than your current mid 1400g wheel set now.
