Description

Thomson Elite SM-E102 Stem 110 / 5 Degree 25.4 x 1 1/8 Black MTB Road XC

Has been inspected, Ultrasonic cleaned, and lubed. Ready to be used.

The Thomson Elite SM-E102 stem is compatible with any bicycle fork that has a 1 1/8 inch (or 28.6mm) threadless steerer tube.

Here’s what that means and what you need to look for:

  • Threadless Steerer Tube: This refers to the type of headset and fork system. A threadless system is the modern standard on virtually all mountain bikes, road bikes, and most hybrid and commuter bikes. The stem clamps directly onto the steerer tube, which extends up through the head tube of the frame.
  • 1 1/8 inch (28.6mm) Diameter: This is the industry-standard diameter for the vast majority of threadless steerer tubes. The stem’s clamp, in this case, is designed to fit this specific size snugly and securely.

In summary, this stem is compatible with:

  • Modern bikes of all types: Mountain, road, cyclocross, and gravel bikes that use a threadless headset and a 1 1/8″ steerer tube.

It is NOT compatible with:

  • Threaded forks: These are found on older bikes and use a different style of stem (a quill stem) that slides down into the steerer tube.
  • Forks with a 1-inch steerer tube: While these were common on older road bikes, they are a smaller diameter, and this stem will not fit. You would need a shim to adapt this stem to a 1-inch steerer tube.
  • Forks with an oversized steerer tube: Some modern mountain bikes use an even larger steerer tube diameter, such as 1.5 inches or a “tapered” design (1 1/8″ at the top, 1.5″ at the bottom). This stem is not compatible with those larger diameters.

Additionally, the stem also has a handlebar clamp diameter of 25.4mm. This means you must use this stem with handlebars that have a clamping area of exactly 25.4mm. This is an important detail, as most modern stems use a larger 31.8mm or 35mm clamp diameter. The 25.4mm size is most often found on older mountain and road bike handlebars.

A little about the seller:

I’ve been in the cycling industry for more than 30 years (I know, that makes me old!). I’ve been a professional bicycle mechanic for most of those years, including working locally at Lee’s Cyclery before they became Trek Stores. Now I work from home as a Customer Success Manager for a software team. But I still love fixing up and working on bikes and riding them too!

Purchase from me with peace of mind. Not only can you trust my years of experience, but I will also fit you for the bike and provide any mechanical insight at the time of purchase.
