Well, when you buy new tires and install them yourself. Please double-check the size restriction of your bike. The current tire size will be stamped on the side of the tire.

In this case, they put on a 700x28c when they had 700x25c. The bike will fit a 28c, but it’s tight and has very low clearance when mud or if the wheel isn’t aligned, this can rub the frame. I see this a lot on mountain bikes, but a road bike is less.

Besides the paint rub, this can be an issue if you get a stick or something kicked up and logged in there. So be sure to check that tire clearance on the new tire being put on and on that used bike you’re checking out.
