Taking SCARY out of used bikes, one bike at a time.

When you spin your wheels, there is a vibration, or the wheel knocks when pushed side to side. It could be your hub.

In this case, the hub was loose and very rough. When I popped it open, I found the cone races were pitted, and the ball bearings didn’t have a smooth surface to roll on.

When replacing the cones, it is always good to replace the ball bearings and repack them with suitable grease. This is a very skilled task, and it is recommended to have your local shop work on it. The price range on this is anywhere from $25-$150. This is dependent on what kind and brand of hub you have.
