When trading in a bike, you will likely not get the total value of the bike. This is because the bike shop will need to profit from the sale. It is usually better to sell the bicycle yourself through an online marketplace or by advertising it locally. This will allow you to get the bike’s total value, as you can set the price yourself.

There are three steps to selling a bike.

One is to determine the value. You can look on Bicycle Blue Book and find similar make and models in your local marketplace and also on eBay.

Two, get it tuned up by a professional or bike shop. For added value, have a receipt and mechanics checklist available. The bike should be ready to ride!

Third, it should be marketed with great pictures, detailed descriptions and specs, and geometry information.
