Steps:
β Prep: Shift your bike into the lowest gear in the back and the smallest chainring in the front. Securely place your bike in a stand or lean it against something sturdy.
β Rinse: Give your bike a thorough rinse with clean water to loosen dirt and grime. Avoid spraying directly onto the brakes or bearings.
β Clean the Drivetrain: Apply degreaser to the chain, cassette, and derailleurs. Use the designated drivetrain brush to agitate the grime and work the degreaser in. Rinse the degreaser thoroughly.
β Clean the Frame: Spray the bike frame with bike cleaner (or soapy water) and use a soft bristle brush to clean it. Pay attention to areas that collect dirt, such as the down tube, seat post, and handlebars. Rinse the frame with clean water and dry it with a rag.
β Polish (Optional): Apply a small amount of bike polish to a clean rag and buff the frame to a shine. This step is optional and can be skipped if your bike doesn’t have much paintwork or a clear coat.
β Lubricate: Once the drivetrain is completely dry, apply lube to each chain link while backpedaling the cranks slowly. Wipe off any excess lube with a rag.
Additional Tips:
β
Don’t use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on your bike.
β
Avoid spraying water directly onto the bottom bracket or headset area.
β
If your bike is heavily soiled, you may need to repeat steps 3 and 4.
β
Choose the right lube for your riding conditions: wet lube for wet weather, dry lube for dry weather.
β
It’s good practice to clean and lube your bike every few rides or more frequently if you ride in wet or dusty conditions.
By following these steps, you can keep your bike clean, lubricated, and running smoothly for many miles to come!
