The Klein Quantum series, prominent from the late 1980s through the 1990s and early 2000s, holds a significant place in cycling industry history, primarily for its pioneering use of large-diameter, thin-walled aluminum tubing. This innovation, driven by Gary Klein’s MIT engineering background, resulted in frames that were notably lighter and significantly stiffer than the predominantly steel frames of that era, offering a distinctively responsive and efficient ride. Klein was also at the forefront of integrating features like internal cable routing, press-fit bottom brackets, and integrated headsets, which contributed to their clean aesthetics and were later widely adopted by the industry.
